his year #PsychologyWeek is all about self-care for psychologists. We encourage you all to do something just for you this week. Commit to not only maintaining this mindset but encourage those around you to do the same. Here are a few reminders to get you started.
"The moment I stopped spending so much time chasing the big pleasure of life. I began to enjoy the little ones, like watching the stars dancing in the moonlit sky or soaking in the sunbeams of a glorious summer morning.” - Robin S. Sharma, The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari We've heard it said - definitely more than once - of how important it is to live in the moment. "Live in the now", "Be present", "You only live once", "Seize the day". We're living more tightly scheduled, visible, fast paced lives - with more feelings of anxiety, detachment, uncertainty and stress than ever. And it's harder than ever to be more present-minded. We are regularly encouraged to think about the future or remember the past. Ads, reminders, notifications, messages, and alerts are all so often geared towards the past or the future. But what does it mean to live in the moment? Being present minded helps you fight anxiety, cut down on your worrying and continually focusing on things outside of your control. It keeps you grounded and connected to yourself and everything around you. How often are you mid-flow of doing something and your phone or device will ping! and you stop to look at it? It doesn't have to a be a huge change - but you can improve your mindfulness in little ways. Starting with your interruptions. #LiveInTheNow #mindfulness #meditation #reflection
Have you ever changed lanes into an unexpected new career? Some of the best jobs people find through APM Group's global employment services teams are those where they take up a surprising new role and become a major part of their community. In this week’s #APMStories we hear from Jaesun in South Korea, who was forced to look for a new job after his career in a bank came to a sudden and unexpected end. Jaesun was facing early retirement and mental health difficulties with anxiety, but he refused to give up work and was still eager to provide a stable income for his family. With support from our APM Group colleagues at Ingeus Korea, Jaesun was able to find a vital new role as a bus driver. It was a complete change from the corporate office environment he had spent the past few decades in, but he was eager to make it a success and found that he not only enjoys the job but also has experienced better mental health as he manages his anxiety. Thanks to Jaesun and the Ingeus Korea team for sharing their story with us. We hope to see more of Jaesun further up the road.
