Pros

some friendly and supportive coworkers, remote working option, a standard amount of time off

Cons

Overall, this company seems not to value or respect their employees. They have ridiculous expectations and have no interest in compensating you--they will take advantage of their employees as far as they possibly can. Culture also seems to be stuck in the maybe era early 80's: and just like in Reaganomics, the "trickle-down" from the top to the people actually doing the work on the bottom doesn't happen in reality. The company itself charges more for various services for accounts you may work on, but you see no fruits of that benefit personally even though it is you who will be expected to meet these absolutely absurd standards, doing the extra work (even working outside of workday hours, they don't care). They will happily volunteer your time (and sanity) that rightfully belongs to your personal life to customers so that they can make more money that they will not share with you. Some points to consider: -very poor work/life balance: employees work all hours of the evenings, weekends, holidays, and even during their vacation time, and for -very low pay -ambiguous job role boundaries, roles (who is responsible for what) not made clear -recent company merger handled extremely poorly (or truly, may have just been a poor business decision in the first place to merge with a company that already had a reputation in the publishing industry of lying about capability and capacity in order to secure work). very poor communication and little accountability, low ranking employees expected to force work out of overseas colleagues and to spin poor work quality and lateness to customers -the level of chaos that exists as a result of this merger really cannot be overstated, and has gone on for a long time and looks to not be abating any time soon despite promises to the contrary -low quality health insurance, uses very pricy coinsurance and has high deductible -you may be the last one to know of any changes made to what accounts you'll be working on -often left with a feeling that work and responsibility is dumped on you without any clear explanation of how to perform said work or take on said responsibility -mandatory meetings frequently scheduled less than an hour in advance -"higher ranking" (or at least, certainly higher earning) sales colleagues known to throw lower tier colleagues under the bus to the customer, despite the fact that those colleagues actually have next to no power over the problem at hand. similarly, they make promises to the customer that absolutely cannot be kept, and the lower ranking employees are left to be the face of the responsibility for that failure to deliver to the customer -virtually non-existent onboarding process -"supervisor" has no connection to the employee and may have nothing to do with the accounts an employee works on; only clear function of the supervisor is to approve time off requests -company asking for and expecting a lot of buy in from employees without giving anything much in return to earn that motivation and buy in from the employees

Pros

-I really like working with the talented and generous people I worked with day to day. Without exception, people in the group were ready to help at any time. -The benefits got better every year -- very good for the size of the company and the area. -Telecommuting is encouraged and supported. The company makes it easy to telecommute a few days a week or permanently.

Cons

-Pay is low for the job and average increases are under 2%. -The open office plan works against getting work done. -People are overworked. When someone takes another job and leaves, no one is hired to replace them. No one is trained to do the new tasks, they're just expected to take them on and do them in addition to the mountains of work they already have. -Very limited advancement. -The yearly performance review system is broken. You get the paperwork in about six to nine months before you have the review meeting with your group lead. By that time, no one remembers what went on and how you performed. -No real project management. Just because you say "Agile" doesn't make it so. -Management ("Leadership") is anything but. They're so dysfunctional and often off in cloud cookoo land. They're not interested in confronting or solving business problems. Sheridan hires many talented and smart people but doesn't involve them in planning or discussions, doesn't listen to suggestions, and expects them to do tasks without "owning" them. The company lurches from self-induced crisis to self-induced crisis. -There is an over reliance and dependence on vendors who just can't do the job. There's no oversight when they can't or don't deliver. We alert management to the problems and errors, but staff are removed from any attempt at oversight. How much money have you dumped on them and how successful have the projects been?

Good benefits and telecommuting; poor management

Pros

Possibility, though unfortunately limited, to telecommute; fairly good benefits; skilled and professional coworkers

Cons

Low salary with annual performance-based raises rarely going over 2%; some toxic and incompetent management who discourage openness and do not consult staff when making decisions that affect them -- for example, half-assed investing in new technology then making workers scramble to try to implement and use it effectively, so employees as well as customers suffer.
