At Westpac, our commitment and advocacy to the community is a key part of who we are. One of the many ways we do this is the passionate team members who are part of our Skilled Volunteering Network Employee Advocacy Group. Our team of employees offers their expertise across various fields, transforming their professional skills and passion for positive change into impactful action. Cameron James (Westpac’s Skilled Volunteer Network’s National Events Lead) believes skilled volunteering can help people both professionally and personally. “I’m a true believer that skilled volunteering allows an individual to venture into the unknown, outside of their BAU day-to-day role, test their skills, build their knowledge and really emerge transformed.” Westpac’s relationship with a wide range of social enterprises, not-for-profits and community groups gives our people the opportunity to use their life and/or professional skills to help our community. Angelique Wan left a career in financial services to help start Consent Labs, a female-founded and youth-led organisation that educates young people on consent and respectful relationships in schools and universities across Australia. With the help of Westpac’s Skilled Volunteer Network, her bold move has positively impacted many Australians’ lives. Throughout May, the network was celebrated at two Changemaker Events, led by The Westpac Foundation, our Skilled Volunteer Network and Jawun. #WeAreWestpac #WeAdvocate
We’re proud to announce that we have ranked second overall and as the #1 Finance and Insurance Organisation in the Australian National Disability Network’s 2023 Access & Inclusion Index. Our ranking could not have been achieved without the drive and support from our Access & Inclusion team as well as our Employee Advocacy Group ABLE (Assisting Better Lives for Everyone) – who are our advocates for customers and employees with disability or accessibility requirements. ABLE were also a finalist in the ‘Inclusive Initiative of the Year' category, recognised for the impactful initiatives and podcasts they run for our people throughout the year.
