How cool is the new AAC board at Warrawee Park? Shout out to speech pathologist Teagan Lane and her 2023 speechie students at ESA Oakleigh for their hard work lobbying to get this installed at their local playground! Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) boards like the one pictured can help people with speech or language difficulties express themselves and communicate effectively. "This playground is used by a number of our clients before and after our sessions," said Brooke Perrin, Practice Principal at ESA Oakleigh. "It's great to see our local council City Of Monash collaborating with Access Ability Australia to successfully install the Communication Access Sign to be used by all the community." Ivy is a two-and-a-half-year-old toddler full of fun, curiosity, and mischief. But when her mum, Ashleigh, was giving birth to Ivy, there were complications. Fortunately, her doctor recognised the signs of brain damage early, and a neurologist diagnosed mild cerebral palsy at only six weeks. From here, she started her journey with the NDIS and arrived at Early Start Australia. Early Start is an Australia-wide allied health organisation, and part of the APM Group, providing multidisciplinary supports to children like Ivy and her family, including occupational therapy, speech pathology, psychology, physiotherapy, social work podiatry, and specialist behavioural supports.
