- Essentially minimum wage. Considering the surprising amount of potential risks involved meter readers' do not get pay that reflects that
- Large work loads essentially from commencing work, reading up to 600-800 meters/day, averaging 28,000 steps or 20km/day walking on concrete
- potential exposure to asbestos/other hazardous materials
- Extremely disorganised management, sometimes receiving the days roster less than an hour before commencing work
- Inefficient systems eg. having to fill own time sheets out weekly on a poorly formatted excel spreadsheet
- Routes are sequenced in an equally janky, poorly formatted excel spreadsheet, resulting in meter readers having to walk more than would be required.
- Expectation that meter readers complete rostered routes the day they are provided, regardless of how long they may be
- Having to walk into someones property at 7-8 in the morning feels invasive
- Risk being attacked by dogs or irate customers
- Must work in any and all conditions
