Pros

Was fortunate enough to gain some valuable experience thanks to the manager I had when I joined (who later departed not long before I chose to leave myself). He is the only reason my review isn't a 1 star.

Cons

There is a massive lack of accountability and execution of any strategic plans within Planday. While the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) for the most part are really supportive of their individual teams, the CPO Birgitte Pihl is only what I can describe as a cancer to this company. Many talented individuals left the company because of her and I can only imagine many more will continue to leave. Birgitte is wildly incompetent, lacks any sort of empathy and fails to see any value outside of her beloved Copenhagen based office. As long as she has a hand on the wheel this ship is destined to sink and fail.

Hi, I was sad to see myself described as “cancer”. This is a very harsh word about anyone, and I certainly take this very much to heart. I am not sure who you are or who would write this, but I would like to understand in what way I could have upset anyone that much to be described in such a way. Whatever it is I have done, I am very sorry you feel this way. You are very welcome to contact me directly so we can talk through things. When reviews are this harsh and feelings are so strong, I always believe it is best to talk it through live so we can better understand each other’s position. I welcome this opportunity, and I truly hope I hear from you. You know my email address. Best Birgitte Pihl, CPO

Pros

Decent pay, benefits and office. Some very kind, talented people. Good WFH policy.

Cons

Very tumultuous workplace - even by SaaS standards. Lots of firings, restructuring, strategy swings, and budget cuts. I felt the culture/atmosphere was very subdued, and everyone was worrying if they were next to be let go. It made it extremely hard to feel positive about the company’s future, or care deeply about the work you were doing - because it might be irrelevant in a week. Not somewhere I felt proud or happy to be.

Hi, thank you very much for taking the time to review your stay with Planday. We are of course really sad to hear that you felt insecurity regarding your role and work. We understand that going through changes can be very tough, and our Leadership team is trying to communicate continuously on future plans and reasons for changes. If you have any feedback or suggestions on how we can further improve the way we communicate across the organization, we would be very happy to hear from you. You can reach out to me directly (afi@planday.com). Thanks again, Anna

Pros

Delicious Thursday lunches and nice food market outdoors.

Cons

One of the original positive traits that Planday had going for itself was a friendly and growth-nurturing work culture with a good work/life balance. That all went out the window following its recent developments within its management team. This has now transitioned the culture from originally motivating its employees to win from their successes and learn from their failures to constant threats of job security irrespective of your performance. Of recent, there’s been a tendency to use unnecessary micromanaging tactics, not to analyse the quality of work to help with improvements but only to keep an eye on us as if we are back in school. Targets were also constantly changed with very minimal rationale and with no transitional aid for the team to learn how to do things differently. Particularly during Covid, we were essentially left in the dark as to how to actually go about the job which created a very demotivating environment. When both joining and leaving the company, I didn’t even have an introductory session or an exit interview with the HR team, really made an impression on how messy the internal organisation is and how stubborn the company is in actually listening to it’s employees. To anyone looking to start a career with a decent training programme/career progression , clear communication as to what is expected and stable job security, I don’t recommend joining Planday. It a company only cares about results and not about its employees, in terms of their satisfaction, in terms of retaining them and in terms of nurturing them.

A review like this is so difficult to respond to as it is clear you have had a really difficult experience from start to finish, and did not receive the support you wished for or a continuation of the culture you signed up for. The only appropriate response, which is true, is that this is noted, and feedback like this forms a crucial part of the ongoing work to improve these experiences as Planday evolves. Thank you for sharing and I hope that you will see reviews reflecting a different state of affairs, as we progress. That will perhaps be the best evidence that your feedback counts.
