Pros
You learn a lot in a company that is constantly making mistakes. For every year that you work at South32 you will be exposed to 10 years worth of mistakes. If you are lucky enough you will be offered a redundancy to leave the business and you can take your experience to a company that cares about their people. Really, the experience is great.
Cons
The organisational support structure ie the functional support and technology are systematically broken. It could be argued that the company would operate more efficiently if it went back to typewriters and carrier pigeons to communicate and pick axes and wheel barrows to mine. Technology Strategy: Nearly every new piece of software that has been rolled out has been a complete failure because it is not adequately funded or project managed. People Strategy: The current practice of bullying people with integrity out of the business and promoting sycophants and narcissists is going to be a tough situation to recover from. The amount of experience that has left the business is scary. Ultimately, whether deliberate or not, it is the workers that experience the brunt of the fall out from bad management and soon, no doubt, it will be the shareholders.
