Pros

- People. Most of the employees, especially ICs, play as a team and help each other out. I'm not sure how this one will continue with recently announced stack ranking. - Great mix of WFH flexibility and well equipped offices. - A decent total compensation.

Cons

- At this stage, the company values have turned into a meme, just like the concept of "Playing As A Team" and stack ranking. - Accountability only works downwards. If a project led by an IC is slipping by a week, management make a big fuss about it and expect a mitigation plan ASAP. But, if the “leadership” is a few months late to provide an update we’re only told that “they’re working on it”. The same applies to the company's abrupt transition from extremely aggressive hiring to lay-offs within a two month period, there was no acknowledgement of potential errors that may have occurred. - In the past few months, the executives' tone of voice has shifted to somewhat passive-aggressive. Sure, it’s difficult macroeconomic conditions, but there’s better ways to communicate that we need to switch strategy. At least for the organisation that Atlassian was aspiring to be. - A lot of toxic positivity, especially from the middle managers. Every re-org is celebrated like it was the the best decision ever. It's especially annoying with more challenging announcements like purging the Development Manager role. - Your career and overall well-being are heavily dependent on your direct manager. If you're fortunate, you have the potential to advance significantly, but if you're unlucky, you'll experience a burnout. And too many good people have become miserable because of bad managers at Atlassian. It’s basically impossible to escalate a conflict with your manager.

Cons

If you’ve ever wished for a job where you can experience the absolute pinnacle of PIP (Performance Improvement Plan) culture and where your worth is reduced to a mere number of pull requests, then welcome to Atlassian! Let’s start with the PIP culture. It’s truly an art form here. If you're not on a PIP, are you even really working? The company’s commitment to ensuring everyone feels the thrill of living on the edge is truly admirable. It's like a rite of passage—every month brings a fresh wave of anxiety and excitement. Who needs job security when you can have constant, gut-wrenching uncertainty? Now, about the PR count. Atlassian has managed to turn code reviews into a competitive sport. Forget about writing clean, functional code. It’s all about the numbers, baby! Your worth here is measured in pull requests like you’re a racehorse on a track. The more, the better, right? Never mind if the quality suffers—what’s important is hitting that next PR milestone. And, oh, the thrill of having your PR comments count scrutinized as if each one were a personal reflection of your professional worth! And let’s not forget the working environment. The long hours and relentless pace make it feel like you’re in a corporate version of The Hunger Games. Survival of the fittest becomes your daily mantra as you navigate through a battlefield of endless tasks and shifting priorities. It’s a test of endurance where every day feels like a quest to avoid the next corporate elimination. In summary, if you’re looking for a job where you can feel perpetually on edge, where your every PR is tallied and analyzed, and where the work environment resembles a high-stakes survival game, Atlassian is your dream destination.

Pros

Free food, free beer and whiskey. Great place to work if you want to get bombed on a regular basis. Also, if you are a white male, this is really the place for you, especially if you miss that fraternity culture of people who "get you" (wink, wink) and understand how to kid around. You will love it here!

Cons

See all the five-star reviews starting from about nine months ago? Want to know why? Someone noticed, "Oh my gosh, we are getting bad reviews on glassdoor.com" and decided that something MUST BE DONE about this. So, that person, being an Atlassian True Believer wrote a blog and then everyone said, "We must fix this! I know, we'll all go online and write five star reviews!!" And then HR said, "I know, we can get on the bandwagon too, let's buy into the sponsored profile thing on Glassdoor so we can promote ourselves." And Mike and Scott sat back in their glass houses and said, "Whew, that's under control." And if you think I am making this up... I am not. If you want to join a cult and tow the party line, this is a great place to be.
