I applied online. I interviewed at Roy Morgan Research
Interview
Initial screening call - which takes a total 1 week turnaround time to even schedule the initial call. After the initial call, they book in an IQ test but name as it an Aptitude Test.
It will a Microsoft teams meeting where a HR graduate intern will sit with you throughout the 1 hour test where they will monitor you while you do multiple choice IQ tests on your shared screen (identify patterns, maths) .
The whole interview experience was pretty terrible since the job I was applying for was a data engineering interview. I would say in 99% of all of my data engineering interviews, they had never made me sit through a 1 hour IQ test and pretty much early on - the interview process has sent a subtle message that they want to see how much we follow their rules/their interview process to understand how desperate we are or understand how much we are willing to follow their broken interview process so that they know how much they can control us during employment.
I will mention this again: If a company asks you to do a IQ test for a data engineering job, RUN fast and RUN far away.
I am experienced Senior Data Engineer with 6 years of hard software engineering experience with a specialty in data. Which company or CTO would force their data engineers to be judged on the basis of an IQ test?
If you score high on an IQ test, does that mean you will perform well within the job as well? If you are doing a data engineering interview, you should be tested and interviewed on the aspects of the job you will be done.
Or, and they made some poor HR graduate intern sit through an entire hour just to monitor someones screen (your job will be automated mate, I know you're reading this).
I failed the interview because on my 50th IQ question of the test (the hardest question), I had to do multiple arithmetic applications in my head and while I did not think using a calculator would convey "Oh I must be dumb because I can't do 59 times 63 in my head, therefore I am not suited for this job" - I was immediately disqualified from my role and the HR intern was very unprofessional about it towards the end of the process.
He was basically like "Hey I told you to not use a calculator for our 70 IQ question tests, sorry you used it to answer the final question in our 1 hour interview IQ test", which is a slap in the face lol.
Please run far away from this company if you actually want a future in data engineering, you're not really that desperate are you? (Person who is reading this).
